a little piece of my weekend (via hipstamatic)…

Jan 31

I must apologize for my absence last week on the blog! As you know from my last post about tissue boxes, I’ve been sick… and Max has been sick… and Kevin has been sick! It’s been a mess at our household, but I think we may actually be on the upswing!

We spent our weekend holed up at the house trying to get better. But on Saturday after a client meeting, we took a couple of hours to get out of the house, grab lunch, and take a swing. It made a world of difference!
Max is clearly feeling better since he taught himself to climb on top of the table (but not how to get down).
Looking forward to next weekend when Max gets his first haircut! But, until then… I’ll be designing up a storm this week!!
How was your weekend??

The Great Tissue Box Dillema

Jan 25

Is anyone else completely annoyed at the tissue box industry for not jumping on board with modern & attractive packaging?

I mean, they’re getting better, but a bright blue and lime green chevron pattern (though I love chevron) still sticks out in my home like a sore thumb! And, I made the mistake of buying those new pretty packaged tissues and since I’ve been sick they’ve left me looking like I could lead Santa’s sleigh. I’ve decided I just need to break down and buy a tissue box cover to house my very favorite tissues. I’ve got four new tissue boxes in the running above! But, until the tissue industry realizes the subtlety of modern design, I will continue to be thoroughly annoyed!

1. Grass Roots Modern | 2. Molla Space Paper Pot | 3. Pfeifer Studio Ebony Tissue Box | 4. Vessel Toro Tissue Ring

And, don’t mind me, I’m just grumpy because I’m sick (and because my house is full of ugly half-empty tissue boxes)! I’ll be back to my glowing & chipper self in no time…

What do you think about all of this? How do you deal with ugly tissue boxes?

My sweet little Maxton has been sick all week with pneumonia! We’re having to give him breathing treatments every 4 hours and it’s heart-breaking. This is his first time being really sick and it’s awful! I miss my happy baby.

Speaking of breathing treatments, did you know that every year for the past 5 years I have raised funds to find a cure for cystic fibrosis?? Well, this year is no different… If you want to support my efforts, please visit my fundraising page to learn more!

Since our anniversary plans were thwarted by a sick baby, the highlight of my week was quite possibly my very first crock pot meal ever! BBQ short ribs… I am now obsessed! Anyone have any delicious crock pot recipes?? Looking for a good one for this weekend.

I hope you all have a relaxing and fun-filled weekend!!
Friday just feels so good, doesn’t it??

Hello, January

Jan 20

What’s the state of your closet?  Mine was in need of a shape-up come January 1st and I used it as an opportunity to edit, organize and of course re-stock the essentials.

I love being able to see all of my items organized and viewable.  Makes getting dressed that much easier and inspirational!  A few things I think no girl should be without in her closet:

Upgrade your hangers to wood – your clothes will thank you; A reliable cobbler or DIY shoe shine kit; Jewelry storage to keep your pretties within view; Grown up handbag storage – we both know you spend enough on them to properly store them!; Canvas storage bins for all your extrasDrawer bins for your unmentionables; Shoe Storage – another investment worth storing nice and neat.

Objects of Splendor :: Kitchen Conversions

Jan 18

Well, now that I’m self-employed (and loving it!)… I’m totally bringing home the bacon!! But, one of the whole reasons that I took this path is so that I could have the best of both worlds:

Creative entrepreneur & devoted mother and wife.

I took my step towards elevating my domestic godess status by dedicating my Sunday to making my very first crock pot meal!! And, I have to say, it felt good! So, I’m working my way into the kitchen slowly but surely. And, let me tell you, I could use a little help.

That’s where Sweet Fine Day comes into play! I must have this kitchen conversion tea towel. And, not because I like pretty things. It’s for everyone’s well being… under this roof anyways!

Now… help me feel better about myself!
What’s your worst screw up in the kitchen??
(mine involved airborne ziplock baggies full of un-set fudge for a fundraising bake sale… but, we will leave it at that.)

Objects of Splendor :: Boyfriend in a Bottle

Jan 13

Well, with Valentines Day only a month away, it’s a good time to start thinking about the awful holiday! I mean… it’s really awful. It’s not just crappy for the ones who are single. Take me for instance, I tell my husband that I hate Valentines Day and that he doesn’t need to get me anything or make a big deal. Then he doesn’t. And, I’m upset. I mean, it’s awful.
So, instead of thinking of myself this year, I’m going to think of all of my single friends and get them …
What better way to lighten the mood of V-day then with a little humor! Friends, you know who you are, expect one of these from me this year (as soon as the shop stocks back up!).

So…
What’s your take on Valentines Day??
It’s ok if you love it!! I won’t judge.

Our Family Photos 2010

Jan 12

I’ve been promising to share our family photos since I talked about having them done as part of my Thirty Before 30… Well, the big 3-0 has long passed and it’s time to finally getting around to sharing! I can’t help myself!!

Take a look at our amazing family photos by the incredibly talented, Steve Visneau! It pays to have talented friends!

Steve, we couldn’t be happier… and, thank you for taking a break from high-fashion models to shoot us common folk.

And, of course, we have to thank Steve’s representation, Sisterbrother Mgmt, for graciously lending him to us for the day. Watch this video… you’ll totally want to be one of the cool kids!

It's In The Bag!

Jan 11

Ashley at A Hasty Life has organized a pretty fantastic blog crawl!! I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty darn nosy… So, It’s In The Bag makes for a perfect blog crawl because I get to peek into the contents of my favorite blogger’s handbags!

Here’s what’s in my bag…
Don’t you feel like you asked me for a stick of gum and I sent you digging through my purse??!!

1. My purse is from H&M and I love it! I think I got it for $20 and it’s the perfect size and color.

2. My accessories: I keep my Target aviators (they’re men’s so they can fit my giant melon!) and my Theory fingerless gloves tossed in my bag.

3. I use a business card holder from Nest to keep all of my credit cards in, instead of a wallet.

4. My favorite red hots from Nest. They’re super addictive!

5. I always keep my Susan Posnick Cosmetics COLORFLO mineral foundation in my purse. It’s completely natural, full of SPF, and so easy to travel with. It’s makes for a perfect mid-day touch up… and the coverage is amazing!

6. Interior designer here! I always keep my black leather Edelman measuring tape at my fingertips!

7. Me and my iPhone 4 are attached at the hip. Need I say more?

8. My friend Lauren (aka DJ Lacy) got me this super cool journal for my birthday! I use it to keep to-do lists and jot down blogging ideas. It’s the perfect size for my bag!

9. Well, what business owner doesn’t carry around their calling cards! I love my Pulp Design Studios cards from moo.com. They’re amazing quality and incredibly affordable!

10. Lauren from Aspiring Kennedy gave me this Bigelow lip gloss at a Twilight party I hosted… She told us it tastes like kissing Edward. So, everytime I put it on I think about Edward… and Lauren. A bit creepy, I know.

11. I always seem to snag my husband‘s cameras for my purse! He hates that I steal it, but it never fails that he needs it when we’re out and about… You’re welcome, honey.

Now that you virtually dug through my purse, be sure to nose around the contents of Pink Preppy Lilly Lover‘s purse tomorrow!
What’s the strangest thing in your bag right now??

Pulp Design Studios!

Jan 10
Well, my friends… I’ve been completely missing in action from the blog the past two weeks! But, I have to tell you… I have very good reason!

Last Monday, I resigned from Nest Interior Design to focus on my own interior design business, Pulp Design Studios. I, along with my business partner Carolina Gentry, have owned this interior design firm for about 4 years. It was actually through Pulp Design Studios that I got to know the owners of Nest when I designed their home here in Dallas. After designing their home they approached me about starting a design branch of their store. The time has come now for me to focus on my design career and for them to put their full focus into the store. I am thrilled to be pursuing my interior design business and even more thrilled that I have the complete support of Heather & Scott, the owners of Nest.

All of my clients are coming along for the journey to join my current Pulp Design Studios roster of clients… leaving me with a VERY full plate. Thank goodness I have an amazing business partner in Carolina!!

And, I’m sure you’ll hear ALL about the challenges, the excitements, and the journey as a whole. It’s honestly you guys that I was most excited to tell!!

I would love it if you…
