Reading Material + Pulp Home

Some might call my magazine addiction a problem… I like to call it a hobby, and I don’t think I’m alone! I know at least one other Pulp Design Studios designer with a similar obsession. (I’m not pointing fingers, but you know who you are.) Whether it’s for design inspiration or business savvy, a few good magazines can be the perfect reading material for a weekend pastime.

And the perfect companion to that stack of pretty pages? A sharp looking stool like our Costello Accent Table from Pulp Home to set them on! It’s a pretty scene, isn’t it? Now, all that’s missing is you!!

Go, feed your addiction.

Pulp Home… Stash Your Jewels

Part of the fun of having jewelry is storing your favorite pieces in places where they can be seen and enjoyed whether or not you’re actually wearing them. And it’s our personal opinion that every pretty jewel deserves an equally lovely container to be kept in.

This citron “Whitney” bowl available on PulpHome.com has the most vibrant, glossy finish on the inside that we’re sure your beads and baubles would absolutely POP off of! (and this Monica Vinader necklace doesn’t hurt the equation either!)

So, how do you store your jewelry?

Fabulous K Brings Pulp… HOME!

The truly fabulous “K” has done it again… she’s taken something beautiful and made it even more lovely with classic details and fresh combinations. We at the Pulp offices absolutely love how Kelly styled our Lancelot mirror atop her dresser vanity and enjoyed the sneak peek she shared of her pretty bedroom corner on her blog, “Fabulous K”. She gave us just one more good reason to love the Lancelot mirror (as if we needed another)! If the photo above peeks your home decor curiosity at all, we suggest you take a moment to hop over to Kelly’s blog for the full reveal.

And while we’re on the subject, we’re curious…

How would you style this mirror in your own space?

Would you perhaps pair it with a sleek and contemporary dresser accompanied by sculptural art objects or maybe soft, elegant accessories layered on top of a glamorous storage piece? Do share!

In fact, if you have a Lancelot mirror at home (or any of our products, for that matter), send it our way by posting a photo of the piece on Instagram with the hashtag #PULPathome. We’d love to see and share how you styled your piece!!

trend report from dallas market, spring 2013

Beth and Carolina haven’t been the only ones stepping out of their usual environments for design! This past weekend I attended Dallas Winter Market as a part of the Dallas Market Blogger Sneak Peek, “A Conversation Starter”. A group of fellow design bloggers and myself toured the World Trade Center during market and popped into a long list of showrooms to see their beautiful wares first-hand. We learned about the careful craftsmanship, intricate detailing, and forward-looking designs from a variety of vendors, product categories, and design styles. Throughout our tour, a few highlights jumped out at me as significant trends.

Here’s my report…

Warm metals aren’t going anywhere. In fact, the trend is only getting hotter!! I especially loved the brassy renditions in lighting.

Artifacts are everywhere. Pieces ranging from hammered metal pots and pans to antique-style magnifying glasses could be found in nearly every showroom. The common factor seems to be the quality of history and age, which can add such an intriguing layer of character to an interior space!

Heavy distressing hasn’t lost it’s luster, although you may be wondering how worn wood can shine. 😉 Well, it certainly did at market this season! Deep grooves and stripped finishes played hand-in-hand with more polished surfaces and sleek materials.

There was so much more to process from market than you would ever want to know, so this is the condensed version of what’s out there. Of course, there’s loads more and I’m sure you’ll see much of it in upcoming Pulp Design reveals!!

But, the question is… of my hand-picked trends, which is your favorite look?

How to Entertain… A Pulp Guide to Easy Snacking

The holidays are officially here and it’s now the season of out of town guests, festive parties, and perhaps even a few impromptu visits from good friends and family. Besides being on your house-cleaning A-game, this also means that a good stock of easy hor d’oeuvre ingredients will be very important. When you’re not interested in throwing a big to-do, these tried-and-true European staples and simple-to-store yummies keep easily in your pantry or refrigerator and offer a quick solution for the casual visitor.

With the help of a few whole foods, you’ll be ready for even the most last minute guest!

Easy Snacking Shopping List:

THE BREAD

THE DIPPING OIL

THE OLIVES

THE CHEESE

THE SPREAD

THE RAW NUTS

(careful with allergies on this one but for those not affected,

these are a great crunchy option!)

THE CHOCOLATE

THE CONTAINER

Another helpful addition to the easy snack is tasty drink! Get Beth’s tips on a well-stocked bar plus an easy-to-follow guide for hot tea drinkers.

Pulp Design Duel: The Set Table | Krista VS Mimi

Before you can blink you’re eyes, Thanksgiving is here and whether your traveling “over the river and through the woods” to visit family or hosting yourself, this time of year is all about family, familiar things, and the joy of gathering and dining. Today’s Design Duel honors those traditions with a special look at the dining room table, set for the holidays. We’ve asked two of our favorite bloggers with a penchant for the elegant and refined to share their selections for “The Set Table”.

Please welcome Krista of Cloth & Kind and Mimi of Manger!

And a few words from each about their signature recipes:

Krista – “Lefse is a soft Norwegian flatbread that we’ve had with every holiday meal since I was a kid. It’s served rolled up, with butter and sugar inside. Absolutely delicious.

Mimi – “One of my favorite recipes for entertaining… Roast beef, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, and pomegranate meringues are very festive and terrific crowd-pleasers!

Thanks so much ladies!
